Russia – Ukraine war operational update of the General Staff of Ukraine for the last 24 hours of Russia – Ukraine war as of 6:00 a.m., April 24, 2023.

425 day of the russian large-scale invasion has begun.

The russian Federation continues to ignore International Humanitarian Law, terrorizing civilians and destroying residential buildings and critical infrastructure.


During the past day, the russian forces launched 1 missile and 46 air strikes. They carried out about 60 attacks from rocket salvo systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. Actively uses aviation, using winged aerial bombs in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts. As a result, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population, destroyed and damaged private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.


The probability of launching missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The main efforts of the enemy are focused on conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut, Avdyivka and Maryinka directions – about 60 enemy attacks were repulsed. The fiercest battles continue for Bakhmut and Maryinka.


The operational situation remains stable in the Volyn and Polissya directions. There were no signs of the formation of offensive groups.


On the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the enemy continues to keep a certain number of his troops in the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions bordering Ukraine. During the past 24 hours, the population centers of Gremyach, Chernihiv Oblast, were shelled; Chervona Zorya, Pavlivka, Kindrativka, Timofiivka in the Sumy Oblast, as well as Hoptivka, Zelene, Neskuchne, Budarky, Milove, and Krasne Pershe in the Kharkiv Oblast.


On the Kupyansk direction, Dvorichna, Hryanikyvka, Masyutivka, Liman Pershiy, Kislivka and Berestov of the Kharkiv Oblast were subjected to enemy artillery fire; Novoselivske in the Luhansk Oblast; Torske and Spirne of Donetsk oblast.


The russian occupiers did not carry out any offensive operations on the Lyman direction that day. Makiivka, Nevske, Belogorivka of the Luhansk Oblast and Torske, Dibrova, Verkhnokamianske and Spirne of the Donetsk oblast were hit by artillery fire.


On the Bakhmut direction, the enemy continues to conduct offensive actions. Heavy fighting continues for the city of Bakhmut. Also, during the day, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions on the outskirts of Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, and Ivanivske settlements. Vasyukivka, Orihovo-Vasylivka, Markove, Hryhorivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochki, Novodmytrivka, Kostyantynivka and New York of the Donetsk oblast were affected by enemy shelling.


On the Avdiyivka direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions in the Novokalynovo and Pervomaisky district of the Donetsk oblast, without success, and suffered heavy losses. Shelled, in particular, Novokalynov, Avdiivka, Severna, Tonenka, Lastochkina, Pervomaiske, Karlivka and Nevelske.

On the Marinka direction, during the day, our defenders repelled numerous enemy attacks in the northern and central parts of the Marinka settlement, as well as in the Novomykhailivka area of the Donetsk oblast. At the same time, Krasnohorivka, Georgiivka, Maryinka, Pobyeda, Novomykhailivka, and Paraskoviivka of the Donetsk oblast came under enemy shelling.


The enemy did not conduct offensive operations on the Shakhtarsky direction. The russian forces fired Bogoyavlenka, Novoukrainka, Ugledar, Zolota Niva, Prechistivka, and Velika Novosilka of the Donetsk oblast.


The enemy continues to conduct defensive operations on the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions. At the same time, during the day, it shelled more than 40 settlements. Among them are Vremivka, Novosilka, Novopil of the Donetsk oblast; Olhivske, Chervone, Charivne, Orihiv of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast; Tomarine, Odradokamyanka, Olhivka, Sadov, Kizomys of the Kherson Oblast and the city of Kherson. About 25 residential buildings were damaged. There are wounded among civilians.


The russian occupiers continue to rob the civilian population of Ukraine, appropriating the grain harvest. So, in the city of Berdyansk, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the so-called russian occupation “authorities” are trying to export stolen grain by loading it onto enemy cargo ships.


The occupiers are woefully short of medical personnel on the battlefield. In order to replenish the insufficient number of military doctors, local employees of Berdyansk medical institutions, who received passports of citizens of the Russian Federation, began to force them to register with the enemy. In case of refusal, they are threatened with the loss of their jobs.


Aviation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine carried out 14 strikes on areas where the occupiers were concentrated during the past 24 hours. Also, 2 enemy reconnaissance UAVs of the “Merlin” type and 1 – “Orlan-10” were shot down, as well as 8 kamikaze drones of the “Lancet” type.


Units of missile troops and artillery hit 3 radio electronic warfare stations of the enemy.
