Scholz’s party supports lifting U.S. sanctions on Nord Stream 2, Politico rerports.

The SPD’s energy spokesperson Nina Scheer supported the possible lifting of the U.S. sanctions on Nord Stream 2 to secure “peace in Ukraine.”

According to Scheer, the U.S. sanctions on Nord Stream 2 “were unlawful from the start, therefore lifting them would be in line with international law.”

“In the interest of pursuing diplomatic paths to peace and ending the war of aggression against Ukraine, steps that could potentially support this process should be encouraged,” she added.
