21 August, on the eve of Ukraine's Flag and Independence Days Odessa commemorated all Ukrainian soldiers and volunteers fallen in the Russian-Ukrainian war during the last 1.5 year.

The event took place in the framework of the traditional annual Vyshyvanka Festival.

Odessa residents gathered near the monument of the Duke of Richelieu - a place where Maidan activists used to gather every day during the revolution - to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom of Ukraine. People lit candles set in the form of Ukrainian national emblem and map (including annexed Crimea) and held a moment of silence.
