Russia – Ukraine war updates: daily briefings as of August 22, 2017

Russia – Ukraine war updates from the war zone in southeast Ukraine as of  August 22, 2017 by ATO HQ operational data and Presidential Administration spokesman on ATO issues briefing: EMPR highlights.

(1) Russian hybrid forces shelled 30 times upon Ukrainian troops positions in the war zone in eastern Ukraine over the last 24 hours, including 9 times on Luhansk direction, 16 times on Donetsk direction and 5 times on Mariupol direction;

(2) Luhansk direction: Russian forces continue shelling in Popasna district (Troytske and Novooleksandrivka), Krymske and Novotoshkivske with the use of mortars as well as small arms; the enemy used machine guns fire during shelling in Staruy Aydar and Stanytsya Luhanska;

(3) Donetsk direction: Avdiivka and Butovka mine remain as the hottest spot on this direction as warfare total duarion was about 10 hours and the enemy released 70 mines upon Ukrainian troops position; Russian forces shelling reported in Novgorodske and Svitlodarska line; Russian troops fulfilled 6 shelling with the use of various weaponry, including APCs and mortar launchers, upon Ukrainian positions in the aettlement of Zaytseve; to this end, Russian rounds hit several residential houses in Zaytseve and have been completely destroyed by the fire;

(4) Mariupol direction: Russian occupiers shelling reported in Bogdanivka; the enemy fired with the use of small arms in Maryinka; anothe Russian proxies shelling from grenade launchers and small arms took place in Vodyane and Shyrokino;

(5) 1 Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action and 1 serviceman was wounded in actions in the war zone in eastern Ukraine for the last 24 hours.
