Cyber specialists from Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) attacked Russian Railways’ online system. The Russian Railways (RZD) systems are currently down.
According to sources at the HUR of the Ministry of Defense, an unusual cyberattack disrupted the functionality of the zd.ru system. This was reported by 24 Kanal, citing RBC-Ukraine.
HUR hackers attacked RZD
Hackers from the HUR of the Ministry of Defense targeted the RZD system (“Russian Railways”).
The operation, in particular, caused a failure in the NS servers responsible for domain name resolution in the network. As a result, it became impossible to convert the domain name rzd.ru (along with all its subdomains) into an IP address, causing all services on rzd.ru to stop working—including mobile applications.
The RZD press service itself was forced to confirm the attack. According to their information, the cyberattack was massive—up to 6 gigabits of traffic and nearly 2.5 million requests per second.
Millions of Russian users temporarily lost access to key online functions of the railway company, including ticket purchases and schedule information.
They also reported that, although some services have partially resumed, the attack is still ongoing.
