The President reminded that Ukraine did not receive the security guarantees outlined in the Budapest Memorandum in exchange for giving up its nuclear weapons.
“And so, in a conversation with Donald Trump, I told him: We are left with a situation where what’s the solution? Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and that will be our protection. Or we need to be part of an alliance. Apart from NATO, we don’t see any effective alliances today. NATO countries are not at war today. NATO countries aren’t fighting. People in NATO countries are alive, thank God. That’s why we choose NATO. Not nuclear weapons. We choose NATO. And I believe Donald Trump understood me. He said: ‘Your arguments are fair,’” Zelensky shared.
Following this statement, reports emerged online from BILD that Ukraine could create nuclear weapons within a few weeks.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi emphasized that our country remains a “responsible participant in the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.”
