Military intelligence has presented a series of Magura drones that have been hitting Russian ships. The latest version, the Magura V7 drone, has for the first time destroyed a Su-30 fighter jet.
The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine on Wednesday, May 14, presented a series of strike maritime drones called Magura, including the missile carrier V7, capable of shooting down helicopters and fighter jets.
Among the presented drones are: Magura V5, which struck ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet; the multifunctional platform Magura V6P; the missile carrier drone Magura V7, which destroyed a Russian combat aircraft; and the Magura V7 model equipped with a combat machine gun module.
Damage exceeding half a billion dollars
As emphasized by the Main Directorate of Intelligence, over two years of combat use of various modifications of the Magura drone, the intelligence officers have struck a total of 17 Russian naval and aerial targets, 15 of which were completely destroyed. These include two Mi-8 helicopters, two Su-30 fighter jets, and large ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet — Sergey Kotov, Ivanovets, Caesar Kunikov. The damage inflicted on Russia by this type of weapon is estimated at over half a billion dollars.
“We can confidently say that the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Group 13, have pushed the Russian Black Sea Fleet back to their base points. They are restricted in their actions, they do not perform any missions as intended,” emphasized the commander of the military intelligence special unit Group 13, with the call sign “Thirteenth.” “And December 31, 2024, I consider to be a turning point in the history of the fleet — two Russian Mi-8 helicopters were destroyed, one was damaged. Also, as you know, we destroyed two aircraft.”
Technical specifications of the V7
The latest V7 model can operate within a radius of up to 800 nautical miles. Its length is 7.2 meters, width — 2.1 meters, and height — 1.5 meters, according to Ukrinform citing data from the Main Directorate of Intelligence. The hull material is polyethylene/fiberglass.
The drone’s endurance is at least 48 hours and can reach up to seven days with a generator. The empty weight of the Magura V7 is 1,300 kilograms, and the full weight is 3,400 kilograms. Its fuel tank capacity is 1,200 liters. The drone’s cruising speed is 23 knots, with a maximum speed of no less than 39 knots when fully loaded.
Thanks to its high payload capacity, the Magura V7 can be used simultaneously as a kamikaze drone and be equipped with missiles. The drone is all-weather, has multichannel satellite communication, an acoustic environment monitoring system, and is resistant to electronic warfare (EW). Additionally, it can be armed with a combat module equipped with a machine gun and surface-to-air missiles.
This drone can perform a range of operations, including reconnaissance, ship destruction, vessel protection, rescue operations, firefighting, surveillance, patrolling, destruction of aerial targets, mine countermeasures, and cargo delivery.
