On January 21, 2025, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv chose preventive measures for the former commander of the Joint Forces Task Force “Kharkiv,” Brigadier General Yuriy Halushkin, and the former commander of the 415th Separate Rifle Battalion of the 23rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, Illia Lapin. They are suspected of inadequate defense of the Kharkiv region during the Russian offensive in May 2024.
This was reported by RegioNews, citing Suspilne.
The court decided that Yuriy Halushkin would remain in custody for the next 60 days, with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of five million hryvnias. The prosecution’s motion was partially granted.
Illia Lapin was also chosen to be held in custody for 60 days.
According to available information, the hearing of the case for former commander of the 125th Territorial Defense Brigade, Artur Horbenko, has been adjourned until January 22, as “new data has emerged.”
It is worth noting that recently, the SBU and the State Bureau of Investigation detained three Ukrainian Armed Forces officials who failed to defend the Kharkiv region during the Russian offensive in May 2024. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
