Mazepa: The Strategy of a European Ukraine. Large – Scale Exhibition in Kyiv’s Lavra welcomes

The National Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Reserve will present a large-scale exhibition titled “Mazepa: The Strategy of a European Ukraine” starting May 24,

All the documents and artifacts gathered for the exhibition confirm that Ukraine has always been an integral part of Europe, Istorychna Pravda reports.

This was announced by the National Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Reserve.

Ivan Mazepa’s struggle for the freedom and rights of the Cossack state is a historical precedent that takes on new meaning in today’s context. Just as it was three hundred years ago, the Russian aggressor is once again trying to tear Ukraine out of the European space and destroy its identity.

The exhibition “Mazepa: The Strategy of a European Ukraine” features artifacts related to the legendary Hetman, his era, and the political and spiritual orientations of Ukraine at the time.

Visitors will see unique historical documents, works of art, jewelry, weapons, luxury items, clothing of the Cossack elite, old printed books, and other objects that reveal the essence of Ukraine during Mazepa’s era and its core values as a European state.

The exhibition is housed in seven halls of Building No. 4 of the Lavra (the Cells of the Cathedral Elders), each presenting a distinct chapter of Ukraine’s rich European history — from educational and legal traditions to the art and everyday life of the Cossack elite.

The realization of this major exhibition project was made possible through the collaboration of various partners: the Treasury of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine, the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Ancient Chernihiv,” the V. V. Tarnovsky Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum, the National Reserve “Khortytsia,” the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “Hetman’s Capital,” the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, and the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv.

Opening date: May 24, 2025

Location: Building No. 4, National Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Reserve.
