Ukraine continues its tradition of presenting powerful art installations at the world-renowned Burning Man festival.
This year, from August 24 to September 1, the country will showcase an installation titled Black Cloud. It is currently on display at Kyiv’s Sophia Square on June 8 and 9.
“This year, we’re bringing a piece that visualizes the ‘elephant in the room’—a massive existential threat that’s already here. It has arrived and isn’t going anywhere. Europe and the U.S. can either continue ignoring it, or start preparing and helping us. If they want to live, of course,” said producer Vitaliy Deynega.
The large-scale sculpture weighs 7 tons and measures 30 meters long, 17 meters wide, and 15 meters high. It consists of 45 smaller cloud shapes made from 4 kilometers of black fabric. The Black Cloud periodically “comes alive” with flashes of lightning and thunder, accompanied by the sounds of explosions and shelling from Zaporizhzhia. It serves as a stark warning to the world about looming threats and future dangers.
