Voice of America Ukrainian ceases broadcasting

The head of the Ukrainian Service of “Voice of America,” Ruslan Petrychka, shared a post from the broadcaster’s director, Michael Abramowitz, confirming that “Voice of America” has suspended its broadcasting.

“All employees have been placed on administrative leave. What happens next is still unknown,” Petrychka wrote.

On Friday, the U.S. president signed an executive order reducing the number of federal agencies by seven. Among them is the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which oversees “Voice of America” and “Radio Free Europe.”

Earlier, American billionaire and head of the newly created U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, called for shutting down “Radio Free Europe” and “Voice of America.”

Background: Founded in 1942 to counter Nazi propaganda, “Voice of America” is an international media broadcaster that operates in nearly 50 languages across the internet, radio, and television.
