In Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine on the evening of Friday, May 23, air raid alerts were announced due to the threat of Russian kamikaze drones.

11:00 – Number of injured in night attack on Kyiv rises to 15, police say.

In Solomyanskyi district, UAV debris hit an apartment on the fifth floor, causing a fire. Seven people, aged 35 to 63, were injured.

In Dniprovskyi district, a couple, a man and a woman, aged 40 and 41, were injured when debris flew into their apartment on the fifth floor.

In Obolonskyi district, 4 floors of a 9-story residential building were damaged as a result of a hostile attack. Five victims sought help.

One person was injured in Holosiivskyi district.

Three victims are also known to have been injured in Brovary district in Kyiv region.

06:25 – The Air Force declared the end of the threat from attack UAVs.

05:53 – The State Emergency Service shared photos from the site of the aftermath of the large-scale overnight attack by the Russian army on Kyiv.

03:23 – Vitali Klitschko on the massive overnight strike by Russian forces on Kyiv:

According to the mayor, air defense systems have been operating continuously in Kyiv and its suburbs.

As a result of falling debris, fires and damage have been reported in several districts of the capital:

  • In Solomianskyi district, an apartment in a residential building caught fire;
  • In Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out in a non-residential facility;
  • Debris also fell in Dniprovskyi, Obolonskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

Currently, eight people are known to have been injured.

“Two of them were hospitalized from the Dniprovskyi district. Another six received medical assistance on site in the Sviatoshynskyi district,” the mayor noted.

  • A group of drones in the north and center of Sumy region continues moving toward Chernihiv region;
  • A group of drones in Chernihiv region is heading toward Kyiv region;
  • Drones in central Kyiv region, moving toward Kyiv;
  • Drones approaching Kyiv from the south;
  • Drones in southern Kyiv region, heading west.

00:25 – Explosions heard in Odesa — Suspilne reports.

00:06 – Over 20 enemy drones are heading toward Kyiv from three different directions: Brovary, Vyshhorod, and Boryspil districts — Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

23:41 – The Air Force updated information on UAV movements:

  • A group of drones in the north, south, and center of Sumy region, heading toward Chernihiv and Poltava regions;
  • A group of drones in Chernihiv region, moving toward Kyiv region;
  • Drones in northern Kyiv region, heading toward Zhytomyr region;
  • Drones in northern Poltava region, heading south;
  • Drones over Vinnytsia region, heading north.

23:23 – According to KMVA head Tymur Tkachenko, the fire in Dniprovskyi district of the capital is not related to the enemy attack.

“Emergency services are working at the scene. The cause is being determined,” the official wrote.

23:15 – Updated data from the Air Force on Shahed drone movements:

  • A group of Shahed drones in the north and center of Sumy region — heading toward Chernihiv region;
  • A group of drones in southern Sumy region — heading south;
  • A group of enemy drones in the north and center of Chernihiv region — moving southwest;
  • A group of Shahed drones in central Kyiv region — heading west;
  • A Shahed drone over Poltava region — heading southwest;
  • Enemy drones over Mykolaiv region — heading northwest;
  • A group of Shahed drones in northern Odesa region — heading toward Vinnytsia region.

22:39 – In the Brovary district of Kyiv region, a 54-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds to their thighs, according to regional head Mykola Kalashnyk.

22:23 – Air Force data on Shahed drone movements:

  • A group of Shahed drones in western Sumy region — heading toward Chernihiv region;
  • UAVs in southern Sumy region — heading toward Poltava region;
  • A group of enemy drones in the north and south of Chernihiv region — moving southwest;
  • A group of Shahed drones in eastern Kyiv region — heading south;
  • A Shahed drone in Cherkasy region — heading north;
  • An enemy UAV on the border of Kirovohrad and Poltava regions — moving toward Cherkasy region;
  • A group of Shahed drones in Mykolaiv region — heading toward Odesa and Kirovohrad regions.

22:22 – Tkachenko clarified that in the Holosiivskyi district, four cars and windows of a building were damaged. No injuries were reported.

Updated at 22:10 – Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA), Tymur Tkachenko, reported that drone debris fell in an open area in the Holosiivskyi district.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned that new UAVs are approaching the capital.

Explosions have been heard in Kyiv, according to Suspilne correspondents.

KCMA stated that air defense forces are working to neutralize the threat already in the skies over the capital.

As of 21:40, the Ukrainian Air Force reported UAV activity:

  • A group of Shahed drones in northern Sumy region — heading toward Chernihiv region;
  • A group of enemy UAVs in Chernihiv region — continuing toward Kyiv region;
  • A group of enemy UAVs in eastern Kyiv region — heading west;
  • An enemy UAV in Kirovohrad region — heading toward Cherkasy region;
  • A Shahed drone in northern Dnipropetrovsk region — heading toward Kirovohrad region;
  • A group of Shahed drones in eastern Dnipropetrovsk region — heading north;
  • A group of UAVs in Kherson region — heading toward Mykolaiv region;
  • A group of UAVs in Mykolaiv region — heading west.

During the night and morning of May 23, Russians launched drone attacks on several regions of Ukraine. In Chernivtsi region, a fire broke out at a railway station as a result of a UAV strike. In Ivano-Frankivsk region, buildings and vehicles were damaged.

In Poltava region, a direct hit and falling drone debris destroyed a building belonging to a local enterprise and caused a fire. Power lines were also damaged, leaving over 100 legal entities and nearly 1,800 households without electricity.

The Air Force reported that air defenses neutralized 150 Russian drones in the east, west, north, south, and central parts of the country. Of those, 91 were shot down with firepower, and 59 were either lost from radar or jammed by electronic warfare.
