Key points

  • On April 4, the Russian army carried out a targeted strike with an FPV drone on a thermal power plant (TPP) in Kherson.
  • President Zelensky emphasized that Russia has no intention of ending the war and called for increased pressure on it due to violations of the “energy ceasefire” agreements.

Despite the so-called “energy ceasefire,” Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. On April 4, the Russian army carried out a targeted strike on a thermal power plant (TPP) in Kherson.

This was reported by Channel 24, citing President Volodymyr Zelensky’s address.

Russians strike Kherson’s thermal power plant

In his evening address, the President of Ukraine stated that on Friday, April 4, Russia launched another targeted strike on an energy facility. The occupiers used an FPV drone to hit the TPP in Kherson.

“These strikes cannot be accidental—the Russians know full well that this is an energy facility, and such sites are supposed to be protected from any attacks in accordance with what Russia promised to the American side. All of Russia’s promises end with missiles and drones, bombs or artillery,”
Zelensky commented on the attack.

The Ukrainian leader added that for Russia, diplomacy is an empty word. Therefore, he called for increased pressure on Russia so that it feels the consequences of its actions and its broken commitments.

Furthermore, Zelensky noted that such attacks once again prove that Russia does not want to end the war—it only wants to prolong it. He stressed that the occupiers cannot be forced into peace through talks or hopeful expectations.

“I am grateful to everyone in the world who uses their strength to support diplomacy and all efforts aimed at achieving a just peace. We count on America, on Europe, and on other partners—we count on their ability to apply pressure on the only cause of this war, namely, Russia’s desire to destroy and kill,” Zelensky concluded.

It is also worth noting that Russian forces continue to terrorize the Kherson region with drones. On March 31, a Russian drone wounded three people in the Dnipro district of Kherson, including a 61-year-old family doctor.
