Russian hackers stole NSA data

Date: Nov 1, 2017

Location: Russia – USA

Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab admitted Wednesday, October 25th 2017, that its antivirus program siphoned the source code for a secret National Security Agency hacking tool from a personal computer in the United States. Responding to media reports, Kaspersky said an internal investigation confirmed that a home version of its antivirus software “incidentally” swept up the NSA hacking tool during a routine malware scan of a customer’s computer in 2014.

It is interesting that Eugene Kaspersky, the founder of the company, graduated from The Technical Faculty of the KGB Higher School in 1987 with a degree in mathematical engineering and computer technology. It is not clear whether he cooperated with Russian government from the very beginning or he was forced to cooperate later, but it is definitely impossible for Russia’s biggest cybersecurity company to stay away from Putin’s gangster government.

Russia has very few brands which are known worldwide, and Kaspersky Lab was one of them. The smart-ass Putin managed to destroy the reputation of Russia’s biggest software company.
