World war in the making: the diplomatic fault lines exposed

Somehow, we have found ourselves in a real World War, in the literal sense, not metaphorically. And this World War began yesterday, on February 24, 2025. It was yesterday, on the anniversary of the military attack, that the leading countries of the world were forced to reveal their cards, taking steps that cannot be hidden behind beautiful words. Yesterday, during the discussions and voting at the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council, the leading countries demonstrated the real positional layout: the USA and Russia are for the collapse of the international order and the triumph of the law of force in relations between countries, against Ukraine and Europe, which are trying to defend the existing order, the triumph of international law, and the necessity of punishing the military aggressor. China, for now, tries to play both sides, not revealing its cards.

93 countries voted for the resolution of the UN General Assembly, which was jointly proposed by the EU and Ukraine, while the USA and Russia abstained. Instead, the USA introduced its own resolution, very beneficial for Russia, which the EU proposed amendments to, naming the aggressor. The amendments were made, but neither the USA nor Russia voted for the text as amended. In addition to this episode, the USA brought the same text, advantageous for Russia (short, in three paragraphs with a call for peace and words of mourning for the dead, without mentioning who is to blame for the war in Ukraine) to a vote at the UN Security Council, where they voted for it together with Russia. The UK, France, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia, as temporary members of the Security Council, abstained.

Thus, the UN General Assembly adopted two resolutions, which significantly differ in their assessment of Russian aggression. The vote on them showed the real positional layout and the composition of the groups opposing each other. Serbia, by the way, today rightly began apologizing for voting with Europe yesterday, ending up in a camp opposing the “USA + Russia” camp.

It can now be confidently said that this war will be waged using hybrid methods, will lead to the destruction of the familiar World Order and the UN itself, and will likely result in the destruction or collapse of one of the camps, with the possible disintegration of some of its member countries.

P.S. And yes, for Ukraine, this is good news, as strange as it may seem. Ukraine is now, for the first time since 2014, no longer alone.
