Trump and his advisors’ statements: testing the West’s willingness to compromise on Ukraine

Trump continues “testing the waters” for negotiations and gauging the world’s readiness to compromise on Ukraine. However, it seems that the West has not completely lost its mind yet.

A recent statement by Trump’s advisor, Bryan Lanza, who called the abandonment of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including Crimea, a “realistic worldview” during an interview with the BBC, reflects this sentiment. He said, “And if President Zelensky sits down at the negotiating table and says, well, we can only have peace if we get Crimea, he will show us that he is not serious.”

This “proposal” faced fierce criticism. Furthermore, Trump’s administration quickly distanced itself from this statement, telling Reuters, “Bryan Lanza was hired for the election campaign. He does not work for President Trump and does not speak on his behalf.” However, it’s evident that such a statement from a Trump advisor could not have been made without approval, so any attempts to disassociate from it seem utterly foolish. Trump himself has repeatedly left room in his comments for “compromises,” hinting that Ukraine may need to come to terms with the loss of part of its territory.

For Ukraine, territorial concessions and a so-called “Minsk-3” would only serve as a prelude to a new war that could lead to the destruction of our country.
