After the invasion of Ukraine, normal cooperation with Russia is impossible, and pressure on the Kremlin must continue.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated this in a comment to a Novyny.LIVE correspondent on Friday, February 14.
Germany does not support Russia’s return to the G7
Baerbock emphasized that G7 partners have maintained a clear position over the past three years regarding the impossibility of Russia returning to the club of the world’s largest economies.
“As G7 partners, we have clearly stated over the past three years that normal cooperation with Putin’s Russia is impossible. If everyone returns to peace and the policy of aggression changes, then, of course, we will be able to resume cooperation in various areas. This has been a well-known position, and that is why it is so important,” she said.
The German Foreign Minister added that any path to peace would allow Europe and the entire world to “breathe a sigh of relief,” but pressure on the Kremlin must continue.
“If there is now a path to peace, then the whole world, especially Europe, will breathe a sigh of relief. Over the past 24 hours, we have heard very different tones from various conversations. Therefore, for us Europeans and the G7 countries, it is important at this Munich Security Conference that the first steps are taken. And it must be clear that pressure on Russia, which has unprovokedly launched this war, must continue,” Baerbock concluded.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he wanted Russia to return to the G7. The White House leader also said that Ukraine is facing political reshuffling.
