Parishes of Moscow Patriarchate Orthodox Church of Ukraine join Ukraine Orthodox Church

After the Unifying Council in Kyiv on December 15, 2018 and the creation of a Unified Orthodox Church of Ukraine, at least 40 parishes of the (Ukrainian Ortodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate) said they would join the newly created Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Based on open sources and own research, Radio Liberty determined in which regions of the country the UOC-MP parishes join the newly created church.

UOC-MP parishes in western Ukraine join the newly created church most actively:

4 parishes in Lviv oblast;
4 parishes in Khmelnytskyi oblast;
3 parishes in Chernivtsi oblast;
2 parishes in Ternopil oblast;
2 parishes in Volhyn oblast.

Vinnytsia oblast leads in the number of parishes that join the newly created church in central Ukraine. More than 20 parishes have already announced their transition to the newly created Ukrainian church.

Besides mentioned, another 4 parishes in central Ukraine also have decided to join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine:

2 parishes in Cherkasy oblast;
1 parish in Kyiv;
1 parish in Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

In eastern Ukraine, none of the UOC-MP parishes have announced their desire to join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

In total, 40 UOC-MP parishes have joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

The Religious Information Service of Ukraine has launched an interactive map, where you can follow the transition of the UOC-MP parishes to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

According to the UOC-MP estimates, there were 11,393 parishes in it at the end of 2012.

It is expected that the process of transition of the UOC-MP parishes to the OCU will greatly accelerate after the official provision of a tomos of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
