Russia – Ukraine war operational update of the General Staff of Ukraine for the last 24 hours of Russia – Ukraine war as of 6:00 a.m., May 5, 2023.
436 day of the russian large-scale invasion has begun.
During the past day, the russian federation launched a massive attack on the territory of our country, using Iranian attack UAVs “Shahed”, 18 out of 24 were destroyed by our defenders.
The russian federation continues to use terror tactics. Last day, the enemy launched 10 rocket attacks on the cities of Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia, launched 75 air strikes and fired 65 rocket salvo missiles at the positions of our troops and populated areas. There are dead and wounded among the civilian population, private residential buildings, educational institutions, kindergartens and other civilian infrastructure have been destroyed and damaged.
The probability of further missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The enemy is concentrating its main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Lyman, Bakhmut, and Maryinka directions, where, during the day, units of the defense forces repelled about 60 attacks. The fiercest battles are fought for Bakhmut and Maryinka.
No signs of the formation of offensive groups were found on the Volyn and Poliske directions. No major changes.
On the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy continues shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of the russian federation, improving the engineering equipment of the area. During the past day, the settlements of Yeline, Mykolaivka, Ivanivka, Buchki and Gremyach of the Chernihiv Oblast were shelled; Uralov, Porokhon, Studenok, Shalygine, Rivne, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Stukalyvka, Bilopylla, Timofiivka, Kindrativka, Oleksiivka, Yunakivka and Slavhorod of the Sumy Oblast, as well as Chervona Zorya, Hlyboke, Liptsi, Vesele, Ogirtseve, Vovchanski Khutory, Karaichne, Bochkove, Budarky, Komisarov, Kolodyazne and Krasne Pershe in Kharkiv Oblast. Private houses were destroyed and damaged. There are wounded among the civilian population.
The enemy did not conduct offensive operations on the Kupyansk direction. Figolivka, Novomlynsk, Kamianka, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Liman Pershiy, Kislivka, Kotlyarivka, Krokhmalne and Berestov in the Kharkiv Oblast were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar attacks.
On the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the areas of Bilogorivka and the south-western outskirts of Spirny. Stelmakhivka, Andriivka, Grekivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Pischane, Dibrova, Bilogorivka in the Luhansk Oblast and Torske, Siversk, Verkhnyokamianske, Spirne and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk Oblast came under artillery fire.
On the Bakhmut direction, fighting continues in the city of Bakhmut. Also, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the direction of the settlements of Bohdanivka and Markove. Nikiforivka, Vasyukivka, Novomarkove, Markove, Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Diliivka, Zalizne and New York of the Donetsk Oblast were affected by enemy shelling.
The enemy did not conduct offensive operations on the Avdyivka direction. russian forces fired at Avdyivka, Pervomaiske, Netaylovye and Karlivka in the Donetsk Oblast.
On the Maryinka direction, the enemy is trying to improve the tactical position. During the day, numerous enemy attacks in Maryinka were repelled. At the same time, the settlements of Krasnohorivka, Pobyeda and Novomykhailivka of the Donetsk Oblast were subjected to enemy shelling.
On the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy shelled Vugledar, Novoukrainka, Prechistivka and Shakhtarsk in the Donetsk Oblast.
The occupiers are defending themselves on the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions. More than 55 settlements were shelled. Among them are Vremivka, Novosilka and Novopil of the Donetsk Oblast; Malynivka, Novoandriivka, Mali Shcherbaki, Stepove and Kamianske of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Nikopol – Dnipropetrovsk; Mykhailivka, Kozatske, Lviv, Novotyaginka, Sofiivka of the Kherson Oblast and the city of Kherson.
Compulsory passporting of Ukrainian citizens in the Stanychno-Luhansk district of the Luhansk Oblast continues. Thus, in accordance with the order of the russian occupying so-called “administration”, the heads of local organizations and enterprises were given instructions to provide information on the measures taken to passport the local population.
Aviation of the Defense Forces per day made 6 strikes on areas of concentration of enemy personnel.
In addition, 4 Lancet barrage munitions were destroyed.
During the day, units of missile troops and artillery hit 1 control post, 8 manpower concentration areas, 2 ammunition depots and 1 radio-electronic warfare station.
In total, Ukrainian defenders destroyed 3 tanks, 8 armored combat vehicles, 16 artillery systems, 3 rocket salvo systems, 17 operational-tactical UAVs, 30 vehicles and 3 units of special equipment.
