Russia shoots first during the Crimea invasion into Ukraine

Two days ago Russia invaded its neighbour Ukraine, seizing control of the Crimea peninsula where the majority of Ukrainians are Russian speakers and where some of the population has been calling for the region to secede. In today’s update on this ever-developing situation, we look at a “nonsense ultimatum” that may or may not have been issued by Russia, threatening military action against Ukrainian forces, what happened when Russian troops fired warning shots at Ukrainian soldiers, the so-called military “exercises” that Russia’s been conducting near to the Ukrainian border, and the war of words between Russia and the West that’s showing no sign of stopping..
