To avoid being deceived by the smiles, handshakes, and friendly pats on the back between Macron and Trump, one must understand a simple truth: what was Macron’s mission, and did it succeed, even partially?
Aid to Ukraine is only a secondary part of the European politicians’ agenda. Their primary focus now is their own survival against the Russian-American threat.
Macron’s visit and personal meeting with Trump closely resemble his previous visits and meetings with Putin (remember the long table?). The goal is straightforward: to get a personal sense of what one’s counterpart truly thinks and what to expect from them.
And here, unfortunately, the conclusions are grim—for Ukraine, for France, and for Europe as a whole. Everyone has now realized this.
The EU and France already understand that a Trump-Putin pact is not just realistic but almost inevitable. Keir Starmer’s visit will not change this either. There is no force in the world (not even China—and especially not China) that can stop Trump and the techno-fascists from their relentless pursuit of business with Putin.
Everything is unfolding almost exactly as Marx described:
“At 100% profit, capital disregards all human laws; at 300%, there is no crime it would not risk, even under the threat of the gallows.”
In reality, this phrase comes from the 1860 book by British politician and economist Dunning, which Marx merely quoted. But today, that’s beside the point.
Beyond shared business projects with Putin, Trump also seeks to adopt a common organizational model with him: divide and rule. Autocracy within the U.S. and imperialism on the international stage.
As for the so-called plan to “settle the Ukrainian question,” it is now clear to me that this is about a Russian-American condominium—joint control over Ukraine’s resources. Ukraine is seen primarily as a resource, not as an ally, a partner, a victim of aggression, or a democratic nation. Just a territory with assets ripe for joint exploitation with Russia.
And this, so to speak, is merely the pilot project—one that will soon be applied to other European and non-European countries.
That’s why Macron and Starmer are desperately trying to jump onto the last car of this speeding train—just to at least see where it’s headed…
To stay in the game, they are offering their contribution: European peacekeepers in Ukraine—not to counteract but to partner with the U.S. (with air cover provided by American forces). And it seems Trump has agreed. He even announced that Putin is on board, since expanding the condominium benefits Russia—the more participants, the more partners for Moscow, and the stronger the legitimacy of its actions.
And the members of this condominium will call themselves “guarantor states” of a stable and lasting peace.
So don’t be fooled by the smiles. Don’t be fooled. Because we have our own work to do. No matter what.
