Anti-Ukrainian candidate Nawrocki has won the Polish presidential election

The Polish National Electoral Commission has published the results from 100% of polling stations, according to Gazeta Wyborcza.

Based on the full vote count, Karol Nawrocki, Director of the Institute of National Remembrance, won the second round of Poland’s presidential election with 50.89% of the vote. His opponent, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, received 49.11%.

Far-right Confederation candidate Sławomir Mentzen, who placed third in the first round with 14.81%, attempted to influence the runoff by offering his endorsement in exchange for both candidates signing a “declaration of commitments,” several points of which concerned Ukraine.

Ahead of the second round, Nawrocki expressed his readiness to support Mentzen’s conditions, which included pledges not to send Polish troops to Ukraine and not to support Ukraine’s future accession to NATO.

  • Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Nawrocki’s pledge to block Ukraine from joining NATO amounts to state treason and is one of the most shocking scandals of the election campaign.
  • Rafał Trzaskowski, the presidential candidate from the ruling party and mayor of Warsaw, refused to sign Mentzen’s declaration, emphasizing the need to support Ukraine’s accession to NATO. In contrast, Nawrocki publicly agreed to the demands and signed the corresponding declaration.
