Reactors at the Khmelnitskyi and Rivne NPPs were shut down due to Russian missile strikes

UKRAINE, November 16. Both power units at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and one power unit at the Rivne NPP were shut down due to Russian missile strikes on Ukraine.

This was stated by Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi.

Yesterday, the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant lost full access to the power grid for more than 9 hours due to enemy attacks. The station temporarily switched to backup power from diesel generators.

During power outage, two reactors of the nuclear power plant were shut down.

“More than nine hours later – at 03:45 this morning – the plant regained off-site electricity through two 330 kilovolt (kV) back-up power lines, and the diesel generators were stopped. One of those lines was again lost about an hour later and restored only at 11:25,” the IAEA director general said.

The Rivne NPP lost the connection to one of its 750 kV power lines yesterday afternoon. As a result, the plant reduced its power output, and one of its four power units was automatically disconnected.

“At 04:00 on 16 November, the plant increased the power output of one of its other power units to restore power supply to the Ukrainian power grid,” Grossi added.

It should be reminded that yesterday, November 15, Russia launched the most massive missile strike since the beginning of the war. According to the Air Force, the invaders attacked Ukraine with 96 cruise missiles, guided air missiles and drones of three types.
