“We knew that the russian Federation would attack,” – the head of the State border Service of Ukraine

We knew that the russian Federation would attack from Belarus, but we did not believe in an assault from Crimea, – the head of the head of the State Border Service of Ukraine Serhiy Deineko in an interview with “Ukrainian Pravda” outlet.

“I reported to the president Volodymyr Zelenskyy 2 weeks before the start of the full-scale invasion that there would be a war, that Russia would definitely attack the territory of Ukraine from the Republic of Belarus through the Chernobyl zone. Two weeks before the start of the full-scale invasion, we completely evacuated all the secret documentation of personal and residential affairs of our personnel from Mariupol, Kramatorsk, Lysychansk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Lutsk, Kyiv, Boryspil, Berdyansk, Odesa and Kherson… I hesitated and thought, whether to carry out the evacuation of this documentation specifically from Ukraine the Crimean direction, because until the last moment I did not believe that there could be an invasion specifically from the Crimea,” said Serhiy Deineko.

He noted that on February 21, he informed all higher authorities in writing that there would be a war. In his opinion, the enemy postponed the date of the full-scale offensive (at first it was February 19, then the 22nd and the last – February 24) because they were waiting.

“The enemy was waiting. He was ready. We recorded that the servicemen of the Russian troops, who were on the territory of Belarus “for the so-called exercises”, began to call their relatives and actually say goodbye to them as early as February 12. We intercepted these conversations, and it was clear from their text and nature that the invasion was only days away,” Deineko said.
