INTERVIEWS

“I consider Jerusalem the place where negotiations between Ukraine and Russia can be held,” President Zelensky

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to journalists and answered questions about the possibility of talks between Ukraine and Russia.

One of the questions was asked by a journalist of the Turkish news agency Anadolu. According to him, yesterday the president of the occupying country, Vladimir Putin, said that there were “positive developments” in the issue of negotiations with Ukraine. The journalist asked the President of Ukraine if he hoped for a ceasefire and the success of the negotiation process.

The President answered the following:

“We know 100% there will be a victory, and we do not know 100% when it will be. Our diplomats are working and talking about some details of the agenda that may be between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. I would like this to happen, and it would be a real, in practice, not verbal, settlement process. A ceasefire should be the beginning of negotiations to end the war. This, in particular, will unblock humanitarian processes: the evacuation of people affected by hostilities in the settlements, as well as the delivery of food, water and medicine. This is the correct signal, from which the end of the war always begins in all normal, civilized times.”

Volodymyr Zelensky also noted the importance of receiving a signal from Russia on readiness for negotiations, which has not been the case in the last two years. The head of state stressed that thousands of people have died because Russia has never confirmed the possibility of a meeting. And this is the responsibility of the RF.

The President added,

“Russia used to put forward ultimatums, which Ukraine did not agree to, and the war intensified. We see that the rapid operation – three or four days – did not happen. The occupation of our state, the change of leadership of our state, the change of the flag of our state did not happen. I am sure this will not happen.”

A representative of the Israeli press asked Volodymyr Zelensky if he believed that the position of Israeli Prime Minister Bennett as a mediator could help in the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine.

The President answered him that he hoped Prime Minister Naftali Bennett would have a positive influence on negotiations. Zelensky also said that Israel should be among the security guarantors for Ukraine and called Jerusalem a possible place to meet with the Russian president to end the war.
