Why there was no alarm before the russian strikes in Kharkiv: Air Force response

On the morning of October 6, Russian troops attacked the center of Kharkiv, but the air alert in the city was announced after the attack. The Ukrainian Air Force explained why this happened.

To strike Kharkiv, the enemy used a missile of an unidentified type flying along a ballistic trajectory. It reached the target in “a matter of seconds,” so it was very difficult to detect it in a timely manner.

This was stated by the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ihnat during a telethon, TSN reports.

According to him, the air alert in Kharkiv was announced after the attack because the occupiers most likely used a type of weapon that Ukrainian air force cannot detect in a timely manner. It is now known that it was a missile, but its type has not yet been identified.

“We have to wait until they see the wreckage. Let’s just say that the missiles were on a ballistic trajectory. This may be the type of weapon that, unfortunately, cannot be detected in a timely manner,” explained Ihnat.

The spokesman explained that the Ukrainian Air Force uses data received from Western partners, as well as intelligence data. When there is information about a threat, a missile alert is issued.

“That is, an air alert is a threat of ballistic missile use. But I emphasize that sometimes the enemy manages to do it covertly. And then the alarm comes along with explosions. Nothing can be done about it,” said Ihnat.

He also noted that the situation is similar to attacks with rocket artillery, when the launched shell also “flies for a few seconds”.

“Ballistics can fly both from a short distance and from a long distance. There was information that a strike from the Voronezh region was possible. That’s why ballistics is a matter of time,” Ihnat said.

According to him, the invaders also used a ballistic missile the day before to strike the village of Groza in Kharkiv region, where, as of the morning of October 6, 52 people were killed. It took about 10 minutes from the moment the air raid was announced to the strike.

As a reminder, today, October 6, the enemy launched 2 missile strikes, previously with Iskander missiles, on Kharkiv. The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, spoke about the consequences. “One of the missiles hit a roadway in Kharkiv, and windows in neighboring houses were smashed.
