Ukraine has stopped the transit of Russian oil to Hungary. Official Budapest, along with Moscow, still hopes for a “legal resolution”

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó criticized Ukraine’s decision to halt the transit of Russian “Lukoil” oil to his country.

The statement was released by Hungarian government spokesman Zoltán Kovács on social media platform X.

Szijjártó considers Kyiv’s decision “incomprehensible and unacceptable,” noting that although Hungary has stabilized oil supplies through temporary solutions, these are unsustainable in the long term and require a quick resolution.

The Hungarian minister reported that Hungary and Slovakia rely on the Druzhba pipeline, with “Lukoil” supplying about two million tons of oil per year.

Finally, Ukraine has found a way to punish Hungary and has struck its energy system

Sanctions against the Russian oil company “Lukoil” were imposed earlier, but today, within these sanctions, Ukraine stopped the transit of oil to Hungary. As a result, Hungary is forced to completely stop importing oil from Russia through Ukraine, which accounted for two-thirds, or almost 70%, of its total imports.

Szijjártó plans to raise the issue at the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council meeting, adding that “a country aspiring to join the EU is jeopardizing the energy supply of two EU member states, especially in summer when energy consumption peaks.” The minister also expressed hope that Ukraine would quickly resolve the problem.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó is trying to twist the situation to make it seem like Ukraine is harming the energy market of the European Union. However, this tactic will not work for Szijjártó, as Ukraine has imposed additional sanctions not against Hungary, an EU member, but against the Russian company “Lukoil.” Now, to cover the import deficit, Budapest must seek other sources of raw materials, of which there are almost none left.
