The night attack on Kyiv: russian ‘unstoppable’ Kinzhal missile shot down again

According to preliminary data, during the enemy attack on Kyiv, the fall of missile fragments was recorded in five districts. This was reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration.

“The eighth air attack on Kyiv since the beginning of May, 2023! This time, the enemy launched a complex attack from different directions simultaneously, using UAVs, cruise missiles and probably ballistic missiles.” stated Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

“It was exceptional in its density – the maximum number of attacking missiles in the shortest period of time,” said the head of the KMVA Serhiy Popko.

According to preliminary information, the vast majority of enemy targets in Kyiv’s airspace were detected and destroyed. Data on the number and type of missiles will soon be reported by the Air Force.

You can check out the full detailed timeline of how it was. The attack of the russian MiG-31 jets on Kyiv by minutes is available below:

Official statement from the Commander in Chief of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi become public later, but it’s amazing.

Around 3:30 a.m. on May 16, 2023, the russian invaders attacked Ukraine from the north, south, and east with 18 air, sea, and land-based missiles of various types.

6 (six) Kh-47M2 ‘Kinzhal’ aeroballistic missiles were launched from six MiG-31K aircraft, 9 (nine) Kalibr cruise missiles were launched from ships in the Black Sea, and 3 (three) land-based missiles of S-400 ‘Iskander-M’ type.

All 18 missiles were shot down by the forces and means of air defense of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Updated report says that Kyiv was attacked by 6 russian Kindzhal hypersonic missiles at 02:55 a.m. last night.

The launches were carried out by 3 MIG-31K from the Khotilovo airfield of the Tver region, russia and 3 MIG-31K from the Akhtubinsk airfield of the Voronezh region, russia.

All targets were destroyed by our air defense forces.

In addition, on the night of May 16, 2023 the enemy attacked Ukraine with attack drones of the Shahed-136/131 type, and also conducted aerial reconnaissance with three operational-tactical drones – “Orlan-10”, “SuperCum”.

It is worth mentioned, that russia spent at least $120 million US dollars on the night attack on Ukraine.

As was calculated by the Ekonomichna Pravda:

  • a Kalibr missile costs $6.5 million, which means that the total cost of projectiles fired at night is $58.5 million;
  • A hypersonic missile Kh-47 Kinzhal can cost from $10 million dollars and more, the total cost of 6 launches is $60 million;
  • Iran-made drones Shahed-136/131, according to open sources, cost from $20,000 to $50,000 per unit. On average, 6 such UAVs cost $280,000;
  • a Russian Orlan-10 UAV costs, according to the General Staff, $100,000;
  • There is no data on the price of the SuperCam UAV in open sources, so let’s assume that it is close to the price of the Orlan-10. Consequently, 3 drones cost $300,000.

In total, the missiles and drones fired at Ukraine on the night of May 18, 2023 cost $119.08 million to the russian Federation.
