How air defence shot down the Bayraktar drone over Kyiv
Explosions were heard in Kyiv. Air defense shot down the drone, but its debris caused a fire
On the evening of May 4, explosions were heard in the capital. The local authorities reported on the work of the air defense forces, and the fire in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv.
Explosions were heard in Kyiv around 8:15 p.m. kyiv time.
A few minutes later, the Kyiv city military administration reported that air defense was operating in the city.
Later, KCMA informed that an unmanned aerial vehicle was spotted over Kyiv during the air raid alarm. The air defense forces shot it down. There is currently no information on casualties or destruction of the housing stock and infrastructure.
Mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klychko, reported about a fire in the Solomyanskyi district of the capital. According to him, the fire was probably caused by the fragments of the downed drone. All services are on their way to the scene.
Updated at 20:54. КCМА and Mayor Klychko clarified that the fire started in a 4-story non-residential building. The area of the fire is 50 m²; rescuers are now containing the fire. So far, no one has sought medical help.
Updated at 21:05. The fire in the Solomyanskyi district was contained. As a result of the fall of the UAV debris, the building structures on an area of 150 m² were destroyed; information about the casualties is being clarified, Klychko informed.
It was also reported that a small area in the Pechersk district caught fire due to the fall of UAV debris. The buildings are undamaged; there are no casualties.
Updated at 21:45. Klychko reported that the fire in the Solomyanskyi district was put out. The fire broke out on the first floor of a 4-story shopping center building. As a result of the fall of the UAV debris, the decorative external elements of the building and glass were destroyed by a blast wave; the support structures were not damaged.
Updated at 23:23. The Air Force informed that the drone shot down over Kyiv was a Ukrainian Bayraktar TB2. It lost control, so they decided to destroy it for the safety of Kyiv residents.
The air raid alarm in the capital began at 20:00 and lasted 32 minutes.
