A destroyed transformer from one of Ukraine’s thermal power plants, ruined by Russia, has been put on public display

A destroyed transformer from one of Ukraine’s thermal power plants, ruined by Russia, has been put on public display for the first time in Kyiv.

An installation titled The Battle for Light opened at Kontraktova Square. Kyiv residents and visitors to the capital now have the opportunity to see for the first time what the equipment of Ukrainian thermal power plants looks like after Russian attacks.

This transformer, like dozens of others, was damaged by numerous massive enemy strikes on the energy sector. It endured several hits from debris and was ultimately completely destroyed.

“The displayed transformer has its own story – after the shelling, it burned for a full day because it was impossible to extinguish it. Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage, it cannot be restored,” DTEK’s executive director, Dmytro Sakharuk said.
