3 million dollars bribe during the war: what was decided at the Plenum of the Supreme Court of Ukraine?

Kniaziev’s case — what was decided at the Plenum of the Supreme Court? Vsevolod Knyazev, the head of the Supreme Court, is suspected of a $2.7 million bribe.

On Tuesday, May 16, a meeting of the Plenum of the Supreme Court was held in Kyiv, at which the judges approved the statement and decided that the Supreme Court had to self-cleanse.

The judges also voted to submit the motion of no confidence in the Chairman of the Supreme Court Vsevolod Kniaziev to the Plenum and to remove him from the position of the Chairman of the Supreme Court. 138 of 142 judges voted for it.

The corresponding Plenum of the Supreme Council will take place soon. Currently, this issue is being resolved by the organizing committee. The judges have formed a group of four persons who will prepare a draft decision on the motion of no confidence in Kniaziev for voting at the Plenum.

If the Plenum supports it, Kniaziev will be dismissed from the position of the chairman of the Supreme Court but not from judicial service.

According to Prosud, if Kniaziev is removed from the position of the Chairman of the Supreme Court, he will remain a judge of the Supreme Court, but will lose his position as a member of the Supreme Council of Justice, and therefore will not be able to influence the appointment of members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine.

The Supreme Court must elect a new chairman within a month, until then the powers of the chairman will be exercised by the deputy, and if he is not available, then by the judge with the longest experience in the Supreme Court.

168 judges are official employees of the Supreme Court. 141 judges were present at the meeting, 138 of them signed the motion of no confidence in the chairman (56 signatures were required for the motion to be accepted).

The Supreme Court, being fully aware of its role and place in the justice system, takes full responsibility for the events taking place in connection with the alleged corrupt actions of its individual representatives.

Judges of the Supreme Court are shocked by these events.

The Supreme Court emphasizes that a complete and objective investigation of all circumstances will contribute to establishing the truth and restoring justice as soon as possible. There must be an inevitable punishment for any corruption crime.

Judges and employees of the Supreme Court voluntarily and fully cooperate with the investigation.

Judges of the Supreme Court have to state that corrupt acts in courts of any level, and even more so in the Supreme Court, cause irreparable damage to the reputation and trust in the court, destroy the authority of justice.

The Supreme Court acts and will act on the principle of self-cleansing, taking all necessary measures.

This is a dark day in the history of the court. We must withstand this blow with dignity.

To remind, earlier, Mr Knyazev, who is suspected of a $2.7 million bribe, said that: “Money was brought to me for safekeeping. Different persons brought money to me for safekeeping, even judges of the Supreme Court. They were simply kept in my office,” he said.

In recent days it was become known that another $500,000 dollars bride belongs to Vladyskav Knyazev.
