Worldwide support for Crimean Platform
Emine Dzheppar, the first deputy foreign minister of Ukraine met EU representatives at the Crimean Platform. Ambassadors of European Union member states joined via video conference to discuss the current situation inside occupied Crimea and instruments to get Crimea back.
The platform itself was launched in October 2020 with the final objective to achieve the de-occupation of the Crimea via joint efforts and diplomatic steps solely. The Crimea situation was always treated separately and was not part of the Normandy format hosted in France, focused on establishing peace in the eastern part of Ukraine. The newly created platform must serve as a format that attracts political leaders, analysts, and build up awareness about the situation which is marked by mass human rights violations- occupation taking 2,5 mln of Ukrainians as hostages, racial discrimination towards Crimean Tatar community.
It is expected that the platform activity will result in conducting the “Crimean Summit” (to be held in May 2021). It should demonstrate around the globe support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Some of Ukraine’s strategic partners already expressed their support of the initiative: The USA, Turkey, Baltic nations.
Russia will also be invited, which is especially critical as Russia has recently implemented local elections in the occupied territory of Crimea and Simferopol (which were not recognized internationally).
The platform and efforts behind it are supported by the Permanent Representative of Crimea Anton Korynevyvch and Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimea Tatar People Refat Chubarov who also joined the video conference.
