March 4, 2014. Russian troops seized Ukrainian Airforce Airport in Belbek near Sevastopol in Crimea. When Ukrainian Commander Col. Yuliy Mamchur attepted to pass Russian invaders armed checkpoint, Russian soldiers shoot over the heads of him and his soldiers (ENG subtitles).

March 4, 2014. Russian army invades Ukraine and seize Crimea. Russia has invaded the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine and taken over its civilian and military infrastructure. Not a shot has been fired so far, but Russia is using its superior force to intimidate Ukrainian troops in an attempt to get them to urrender. Russia claims it wants to stabilize the situation on the peninsula, which has a large Russian population, but Ukraine’s new government regards the move as an occupation of its sovereign territory.

March 4, 2014. Russia shoots first during the Crimea invasion into Ukraine. Two days ago Russia invaded its neighbour Ukraine, seizing control of the Crimea peninsula where the majority of Ukrainians are Russian speakers and where some of the population has been calling for the region to secede. In today’s update on this ever-developing situation, we look at a “nonsense ultimatum” that may or may not have been issued by Russia, threatening military action against Ukrainian forces, what happened when Russian troops fired warning shots at Ukrainian soldiers, the so-called military “exercises” that Russia’s been conducting near to the Ukrainian border, and the war of words between Russia and the West that’s showing no sign of stopping.
