Russia – Ukraine war updates from the war zone in southeast Ukraine as of August 28, 2016 by ATO HQ operational data and Presidential Administration spokesman on ATO issues briefing: EMPR highlights.

(1) The situation in the war zone in eastern Ukraine remains tense. Russian hybrid forces fired upon Ukrainian troop positions 59 times over the last day, including: 9 times on Luhansk direction, 26times on Donetsk direction and 24 times on Mariupol direction;

(2) Luhansk direction: Popasna and Stanytsa Luhanska suburbs were hot spots on this direction as Russian forces actively fired there with mortars, grenade launchers and small arms; Russian sniper activity reported in Popasna as well;

(3) Donetsk direction: firefights of high intensity with the use of mortar fire reported all across the frontline, Russian artillery shelling took place in Luhanske and in the area of Donetsk airport; the enemy used armored vehicles and mortars in Zaytseve and Maroysk; in particular, Russian occupiers released 100 mines upon Ukrainian positions in Zaytseve; the enemy actively fired upon Ukrainian troops in Avdiivka industrial area with mortars and cannons; to this end, Russian forces launched 17 attacks with forbidden heavy mortars and artillery on this direction;

(4) Mariupol direction: the hottest spots reported in Maryinka, Krasnogorivka and Shyrokino, where the enemy actively used mortar fire and small arms; Russian forces also launched artillery attacks in Shyrokino; Russian sniper fire took place in Maryinka; the enemy fired with forbidden mortars in Taramchuk, Talakivka and Vodyane;

(5) 2 Russian UAVs were spotted on Svitlodarska line and Mariupol direction;

(6) Russia has the following losses in the war zone in eastern Ukraine over the last 24 hours: 1 killed and 4 wounded;

(7) 2 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in action and 4 servicemen were wounded in action in the war zone in southeast Ukraine over the last 24 hours.
