Russia – Ukraine war operational update of the General Staff of Ukraine for the last 24 hours of Russia – Ukraine war as of 6:00 a.m., April 17, 2023.

418 day of the russian large-scale invasion has begun.

Over the past day, the russian occupiers launched 25 missile strikes from the S-300 air defense system on the peaceful cities of Zaporizhzhia and Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhia Oblast, and Snigurivka in the Mykolayiv oblast.

The enemy launched 46 attacks from rocket salvo systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and the infrastructure of populated areas. There are dead and wounded civilians, high-rise and private residential buildings, civilian educational institutions, hospitals, churches and other civilian infrastructure have been destroyed and damaged.

The russian aggressor continues to use terror tactics, the probability of launching missile and air strikes throughout the territory of Ukraine remains high.

The enemy suffers considerable losses, but continues to focus its main efforts on conducting offensive actions in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdyivka and Maryinka directions. Actively uses operational-tactical and army aviation in the specified areas. Bakhmut and Maryinka remain at the epicenter of hostilities. During the day, on the specified areas of the front, our soldiers repelled more than 60 enemy attacks.

No signs of the formation of offensive groups of the enemy were detected in the Volyn, Poliske, Siversk and Slobozhansk directions. A comprehensive check of the combat readiness of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus is underway.
During the past day, the russian invaders shelled the settlements of Svesa, Shalygine, Bunyakyne, Bilopylla, Iskriskivshchyna, Shpyl, Volfine, Yunakivka, Basivka, and Velika Pisarivka in the Sumy Oblast, as well as Veterinarne, Neskuchne, Ogirtseve, Vovchansk, Bochkove, Mala Vovcha, Zemlianka, and Topoli on Kharkiv Oblast.

On the Kupyansk direction, the enemy shelled the settlements of Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Zapadne and Kindrashivka of the Kharkiv Oblast.

On the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the area north of the settlement of Hryhorivka and near Spirny. Stelmakhivka, Nevske and Bilogorivka in the Luhansk Oblast and Ivanivka, Spirne and Torske in the Donetsk Oblast were hit by artillery fire.

On the Bakhmut direction, the enemy continues to conduct offensive actions. The battles for the city of Bakhmut do not stop. The enemy launched unsuccessful attacks in the Khromovoy and Ivanivsky districts. Vasyukivka, Minkivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Novodmytrivka, Svivnihne, Pleshchiivka and Shcherbynivka of the Donetsk Oblast were affected by enemy shelling.

On the Avdiyivka direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions in the areas of Novokalynovo, Severny, Vodiany, Pervomaisky, and Nevelsky, without success. The russian occupiers shelling hit more than 15 settlements. Among them are Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Tonenka, Vodyane, Pervomaiske and Netaylove.

On the Maryinka direction, our defenders repelled numerous enemy attacks in the area of Maryinka settlement of Donetsk Oblast. At the same time, Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Georgiivka, Maksimilianivka, Pobyeda and Novomykhailivka came under enemy fire.

The russian occupiers has not carried out offensive operations in the direction of Shakhtarsk. The enemy shelled the settlements of Vugledar, Prechistivka, Novoukrainka, Velyka Novosilka, and Vremivka in Donetsk Oblast.

The enemy is defending positions on the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions. Over 40 settlements were shelled during the day. Among them are Vremivka and Novopil of the Donetsk Oblast; Chervone, Charivne, Orihiv, Novopavlivka and Stepove of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Zolota Balka, Kozatske, Lviv and Mykilske of the Kherson Oblast, as well as the city of Kherson.

Over the past day, the aviation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine carried out 5 strikes on the personnel concentration areas and the anti-aircraft missile complex of the occupiers.

4 enemy UAVs were also shot down (2 Orlan-10 type, 1 Eleron reconnaissance and 1 Lancet kamikaze drone).

Units of missile troops and artillery hit the command post, anti-aircraft missile complex, manpower concentration area, fuel and lubricant warehouse and 2 ammunition warehouses of the occupiers.
