Heavy battles are ongoing in the Kursk region

Heavy battles are ongoing in the Kursk region, and Ukrainian troops’ defense has significantly strengthened after withdrawing from Sudzha. There are no deep enemy incursions across the border, – Yuriy Butusov informs.

Ukrainian forces are establishing a defensive line along the dominant heights on Russian territory. The enemy continues its attacks on Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Oleshnya and Guyevo in the Kursk region.

This was reported on Facebook by Yuriy Butusov, the editor-in-chief of Censor.NET, commenting on the situation in the Kursk region as of 1:00 a.m. on March 19.

“Heavy battles are ongoing, and the enemy continues to maintain a significant advantage in infantry numbers, drones, and the number of air and missile strikes. However, the defense of Ukrainian troops has significantly strengthened after the withdrawal from Sudzha—the front line has shortened, and our firepower and drones can operate effectively again, as the enemy can no longer control our battle formations in full depth,” he emphasized.

The Russian command, according to captured soldiers, has been tasked with seizing the entire territory of Ukraine’s sanitary zone in the Kursk region within the last ten days of March. Therefore, attacks are expected to intensify, and the Russians are currently regrouping to launch an offensive along the entire front in the Kursk region.

Additionally, according to Butusov, Russian forces have not carried out any deep incursions into Ukrainian territory at this time. Several small infantry groups advanced up to three kilometers into Ukraine near the village of Basivka in the Sumy region, which is located close to the border. Their advance has been halted, precise strikes have been carried out against them, and the enemy is not currently reinforcing its presence.

“The Ukrainian command is conducting active maneuver defense, the troops are supplied with ammunition, and the coordination and management of UAV units are gradually improving. Every effort is being made to hold the critical operational line at the border.

The city of Sumy is not under immediate threat of a ground assault, as there are enough combat-ready Ukrainian troops in the area, inflicting heavy losses on the Russians daily,” Butusov summarized.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Kursk operation had achieved its primary goal—drawing a significant portion of Russian forces away from the Pokrovsk and Kharkiv directions. Later, the head of state added that the operation in the Kursk region was ongoing, with no encirclement of Ukrainian troops.

Subsequently, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published a battle map of the Kursk region, indicating that the Defense Forces are currently positioned outside Sudzha.
