[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

15-23 July 2016, Odessa will for the 7th time host the International Film Festival.

The beautiful Ukrainian city on the Black Sea shore is well known for its deeply rooted cinema to graphic traditions, and last summer the European Film Academy awarded one of Odessa sights – famous Potemkin Steps –  with a special Treasure of European Film Culture emblem.
Every year the Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF) presents a fine selection of films able to satisfy the most sophisticated connoisseur. However this year festival seems to exceed all expectations. The International Competition Programme features 12 latest in art-mainstream films, most of which were directed by women. The films – participants and winners of film festivals in Berlin, Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary, of the Sundance festival and many more – have been selected by the OIFF team out of 864 applications. This year, 1/3 of all the countries around the world are taking part in the festival, including Luxembourg. Also, for the first time ever, the International Competition will feature a musical.
5 feature films, 2 of which also take part at the International Competition, and 20 short films will compete for the awards in the framework of the National Competition Programme. This year the number of shorts in the competition grew, and they include participants of Berlinale and some other film festivals.

Following the newest trends of the international film festivals, the 7th OIFF will include a new competition for European documentary films (presenting 6 features) and premieres of series.
Every year, the OIFF proudly presents international silent film classics accompanied by live music and shown outdoors on the world famous Odessa Potemkin Steps, gathering around 15,000 viewers. A unique silent film Sherlock Holmes (1916) with a live music soundtrack from famous composer Donald Sosin will become a cherry on top of this year festival and will be shown on the Potemkin Steps on 16 July 2016.
