Trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Turkey have concluded in Istanbul

Trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Turkey have concluded in Istanbul.

When asked by the media whether the meeting was productive, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, gave a brief affirmative response:

“Yes,” he said.

Before meeting with Russian negotiators in Istanbul, Yermak wrote on Telegram that the Ukrainian delegation had discussed with representatives of Ukraine’s allied countries their positions regarding the end of the war.

He said that, together with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, and representatives from the U.S., the UK, France, and Germany, they had “coordinated positions ahead of the Ukrainian-Russian delegation meeting” and outlined Ukraine’s priorities.

“Ukraine is ready for peace and for a lasting and unconditional ceasefire. We are also prepared for meetings and negotiations at the highest level. The Ukrainian delegation is in Istanbul today to achieve an unconditional ceasefire — that is our priority,” Yermak emphasized.

He also added that a key issue in the negotiations would be a direct meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the illegitimate president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, “who for some reason did not come to Turkey.”
