NATO believes Russia lacks the potential for a major breakthrough on the frontline in Ukraine
NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, stated that Russia currently lacks the military potential for a large-scale breakthrough on the frontlines in Ukraine.
He made this remark during a discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, as reported by “Voice of America” and “European Truth.”
Cavoli noted that he is not concerned about a sudden defeat for Ukraine.
“I do not see the potential for a massive breakthrough (by the Russians). This is not a political view, but a military one,” he said. The general emphasized that Ukraine is conducting an effective defense, while Russia faces serious difficulties in forming significant offensive forces.
In his opinion, in 2025, more small-scale offensive operations can be expected, which will gradually exhaust Russia.
“We see that these actions are draining Russia. There is a reason why they brought thousands of soldiers from North Korea,” Cavoli pointed out. He also added that the Russian army will continue to feel the strain between the desire to advance and the lack of manpower.
General Cavoli is confident that, in the future, Russia will be forced to rely more on deterrence weapons, which have already become part of their strategy in recent years.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier stated that the war could end in 2025, but emphasized that for this to happen, Ukraine must receive reliable security guarantees, strengthening its negotiating position with Russia.
