Donald Trump claims that the U.S. should withdraw from the war in Ukraine, and that Europe will continue to support Ukraine regardless of U.S. actions
“Biden and Kamala dragged us into this war in Ukraine, and now they can’t get us out… I will. I will negotiate, I will pull us out. We have to get out. Biden says, ‘We won’t leave until we win.’ But what happens if they win?” Trump said during a speech in Georgia.
Trump also does not plan to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week, according to the AP, citing a comment from Trump’s campaign representative.
Meanwhile, the EU will support Ukraine regardless of U.S. actions.
This was the response of the EU’s High Representative Josep Borrell when asked if the European Union is preparing for a possible shift in U.S. policy toward supporting Ukraine in the event Donald Trump is elected president.
“The difference between Russia’s and Ukraine’s military capabilities was incredible. The fact that Ukraine resisted was, at the time, a miracle. At the beginning, do you remember what we offered Ukraine? Helmets! Now we are offering F-16s, and that is quite a difference. One thing is clear to me: as long as Ukraine resists, we must support it. Otherwise, we will make a historic mistake,” Borrell reminded, noting that at the start of the war, no one believed Kyiv would resist, given that Russia was the fourth-largest military spender in the world, while Ukraine ranked 35th.
