Regional prosecutor heads resign amid pension investigation

The heads of five regional prosecutor’s offices, as well as the head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense in the Southern region, have submitted their resignation letters, according to Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin. All of them were receiving increased service pensions.

These are the heads of the prosecutor’s offices in Zaporizhzhia, Rivne, Ternopil, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy regions.

According to Kostin, an internal investigation is ongoing regarding the legality of granting prosecutors disability status and calculating pensions.

Additionally, the Prosecutors’ Council has supported amendments to the law “On the Prosecutor’s Office,” which will prevent the simultaneous receipt of pensions and salaries. Under these proposals, service pensions would only be paid after the prosecutors leave their positions.
