300 people saved in the basement of a kindergarten: the director of “Yablunka” in Bucha has been awarded the title of “Honored Worker of Education.”

A true heroine was recognized in Bucha. Irina Silchenko, the director of the “Yablunka” kindergarten, has been awarded the title of “Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine.”

This was reported by the Bucha City Council.

The state award was presented on the third anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv region from Russian occupiers. Irina Yevhenivna showed not only professional dedication but also civic courage—during the occupation of Bucha in March 2022, she stayed in the city and organized shelter in the kindergarten’s basement, where about 300 people, including children, found refuge.

In extreme conditions, the director independently managed daily life, provided food, visits, and even gave first aid, saving the lives of the community’s residents.

“We are proud of your dedication, courage, and sincere heart. In the darkest times, you became a symbol of light for hundreds of people,” the city council’s message reads.
