IDPs from Crimea come to Russian Embassy to remind Crimea is Ukraine

IDPs from Crimea come to Russian Embassy to remind Crimea is Ukraine.

20 January, on the Day of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, IDPs from Crimea came to the Russian Embassy in Kyiv to remind that Crimea is Ukraine, hromadske.tv reports.

Around 20 people participated in the action, they held Ukrainian flags and banners saying: “Yalta. Crimea is Ukraine”, “Get out of Crimea, Russian occupants”, “Putler, stop Anschluss” and “Crimea is Ukraine”.

To remind, on 20 January 1991, a referendum on Crimea’s status took place in Crimea, where the majority voted for renewal of the Crimean autonomy, thus defining status of Crimea as a part of Ukraine. Since then, the Day of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has been marked on 20 January.

In 2014 Russia invaded Crimea and annexed its territory by a so-called referendum of 16 March that was not recognized neither by Ukraine, nor by the EU and the USA. Now Crimea is considered temporaty occupied territory by Russia.
