Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery and an ammunition depot in Russia
In the Rostov region, the “Atlas” oil depot, which supplied fuel to Russian military units and formations stationed in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, is on fire.
It is likely that an ammunition depot in the Voronezh region was also hit overnight. Governor Aleksandr Gusev stated that a fire broke out “near explosive objects” following a drone crash. He claims there was no detonation, but the threat was serious enough that emergency services decided to temporarily evacuate residents from two nearby settlements. Russian media report that the depot attacked was in the village of Mala Mezhenka.
Later, satellite images of the fire at the “Atlas” oil depot in the Rostov region were released.
The photos, published by the Russian service of Radio Liberty, show two fuel tanks burning, with several others displaying signs of damage. It is known that the attack took place that night.
Initially, Ukraine did not officially confirm the incident, but media sources reported that Ukrainian-made drones operated by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and Special Operations Forces (SSO) struck the oil depot.
The General Staff later confirmed the strike on the “Atlas” oil depot in the Rostov region and the “Zenit” oil depot in the Kirov region of Russia.
This occurred on the night of August 28. As a result of the strike, a fire broke out in the area of the vertical tanks at the facility. Firefighting trains were reportedly involved in extinguishing the fire.
In addition, strikes were carried out on the “Zenit” oil depot in the Kirov region and a field artillery depot of the Russian “Zapad” group of forces in the Voronezh region. Detailed information on the consequences of these strikes is still being clarified.
