Ukraine has returned the bodies of 909 of its defenders who died on the front lines. They fought on eight different front-line directions.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the press service of the Coordination Headquarters for Prisoner of War Affairs.
Among the fallen are defenders who gave their lives in the hottest areas of the front: Kurakhivskyi, Pokrovskyi, Bakhmutskyi, Vuhledarskyi, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, as well as bodies that were kept in morgues on the territory of the Russian Federation.
As noted by the headquarters, the return of the Heroes became possible thanks to the coordinated work of the Coordination Headquarters for Prisoner of War Affairs, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons, the State Emergency Service (SES), and other security and defense sector agencies.
Exchange of bodies between Ukraine and Russia
Ukraine regularly conducts exchanges of the bodies of fallen soldiers with Russia. The occupiers systematically delay this process, including in the case of the deceased.
The last time Ukraine returned the bodies of 909 fallen defenders was in mid-April.
Also, on March 28, Ukraine returned the bodies of 909 fallen servicemen as part of repatriation efforts.
It is worth noting that, according to data from early March, over the past four months the Russian side has handed over twice as many bodies of Ukrainian defenders as during the entire period of the full-scale war prior to that.
