The Air Force explained how the Russians have upgraded their ballistic missiles for strikes on Ukraine

According to Information Resistance, Russia has upgraded the ballistic missiles it uses to attack Ukraine. This has complicated the work of air defense systems capable of intercepting ballistic targets. This was stated by Yuriy Ihnat, Head of the Communications Directorate of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a national TV marathon broadcast.

“This information is available to us and our partners — the enemy has specifically upgraded and modernized the Iskander-M missiles that follow a ballistic trajectory. We’re talking about the release of radar decoys, which each missile can deploy as it approaches the target”, — the spokesperson said.

Ihnat explained that after the modernization of the ballistic missiles, Patriot systems — which are capable of intercepting such targets — may no longer operate as effectively.

“Another factor is the missile’s flight along a quasi-ballistic trajectory, where it does not travel in a straight line but performs maneuvers during flight. For the Patriot system, which calculates the interception point of ballistic missiles, it becomes harder to predict that point,” he added.

According to Ihnat, these factors complicate the interception of ballistic missiles and the work of air defense systems, but do not make it impossible. “I believe our partners are working on this so that these systems can also be improved to our advantage,” the spokesperson noted.

As a reminder, last night Russia carried out one of its most massive attacks on Kyiv, using ballistic missiles and drones simultaneously.

In total, the enemy launched 14 Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles and 250 attack drones across Ukraine. Air defense forces destroyed six missiles and neutralized 245 drones.
