Kursk direction: the situation is extremely negative
Initially, the unofficial goal of the Kursk operation, as discussed in society and the media, was to “draw Russian forces away from other directions in Ukraine.” Today, it can be fully confirmed that a significant portion, if not all, of Russia’s best FPV drone crews have been redeployed to this area.
Since the last days of 2024, Russian forces began to gradually increase their use of various types of FPV drones (operating on different frequencies, fiber optics, and airplane types) with the aim of neutralizing logistics of Ukrainian Defense Forces. Initially, all drone crews focused on the main route leading from the “Sudja” checkpoint. This eventually expanded into complete drone control over all roads in Sudja and nearby settlements, as well as the connecting routes. Starting in February, this evolved into full drone control over the supply lines of Ukrainian Defense Forces not only in the Kursk region but also in the Sumy border area.
The enemy crews are working efficiently and professionally. They fly in FPV groups at short distances from each other, coordinating well among themselves. They often use the “ambush” tactic, with a drone landed on the ground in standby mode. Sometimes, several “hidden” drones can be found along a small section of the route. It’s no wonder that comrades from other areas boast of calm skies from the enemy side—apparently, the Russians had to pull specialists to key sections, which are currently vital for them.
At the moment, we only have a couple of entry and exit routes to the Kursk region, controlled by the enemy from the air on both sides of the border. Some sections of the roads are completely or partially blocked by our damaged equipment. Logistics, if not dead, can definitely be described as barely alive. There are problems with the delivery of ammunition and provisions, the evacuation of the wounded, the transportation of additional personnel, not to mention rotations. The wounded may wait for evacuation for several days, if the transport even arrives. We already know of cases where forced “rotations” had to be done on foot.
The weather conditions are adding even more difficulties now, as the “lifeline” road gradually turns into an absolute swamp.
At the same time, the enemy is making serious efforts to break through at the “Sudzha” checkpoint through our border area on the left, advancing from Sverdlikovo, as well as from Milove to Oleshnya on the right – aiming to gain full fire control over the “lifeline” road of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Intense battles continue, and the enemy is being held back by the heroic efforts of the Ukrainian Defense Forces at various sections across the entire Kursk direction. Despite all the challenges, we continue to resist, both in the air – through the efforts of drones – and on the ground – through the feats of our infantry.
Unfortunately, the colossal losses of Russian infantry are offset by the use of a huge number of drones, and the necrosis of logistics over time leads to the loss of our positions. However, this was only a matter of time—our control zone was too narrow, literally with just a couple of roads connecting it to the rear, and that was insufficient from the start.
This is not a post about “betrayal” aimed at creating panic. But it no longer makes sense to remain silent about it. I know that our command is aware of the situation and is taking partial measures, but they are still not enough. If we have a “Plan B,” it’s needed already (yesterday) now.
