Azov member Oleksandr Ishchenko dies in Russian detention center due to blunt chest trauma

Deputy commander of the Azov Brigade, Sviatoslav Palamar, published the results of the forensic examination on Facebook. The autopsy revealed that the soldier died on July 22 due to “closed blunt chest trauma resulting from contact with a blunt object.” He also had multiple rib fractures.

“The fact of yet another brutal murder of a Ukrainian prisoner of war has been confirmed. Everyone needs to know about this case, from the USA to China. The murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war must become the number one topic in global media and on the agendas of international organizations,” Palamar wrote.

Palamar added the document to his Facebook post with the consent of the tortured man’s wife.

The death of Oleksandr Ishchenko, who served as a driver in Azov, became known on July 31 because he was not brought to the court hearing from the detention center.

The Ukrainian Ombudsman confirmed the death of a Mariupol defender in Russian captivity

According to Oleksandr Ishchenko’s daughter, he died nine days ago. However, the Ukrainian side was not officially informed about his death or its cause, writes Dmytro Lubinets, adding that the Russians tried the Azov serviceman on fabricated charges and held him in a detention center in Russia.

The Ombudsman has already sent an urgent letter to his Russian counterpart, requesting an investigation into the tragic death of the prisoner of war held by the Russian side and to inform him of the circumstances and cause of Ishchenko’s death.

The tragedy was additionally reported to the ICRC and the UN, so that the organizations could record the death of the captured soldier and pay attention to the conditions of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
